5 Natural Beauty Swaps You Can Make Right Now

In case you missed it, last week I shared my own DIY Body Butter Recipe. If you read it, or follow me on Instagram – you know that I’m all about the natural beauty products. I really believe that what we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put in them, which is why I have made the switch to natural products.

Now I totally understand that cooking down beeswax and olive oil and jarring up lotion is not for everyone – which is why this week I’m giving you a few other options. Last year I found some really great natural beauty brands that I’ve since fallen in love with. However – I was still needing to revamp my routine in a few areas: Soap (I was using Dove), Lip Color (I haven’t used gloss/lip stick in years because the dyes bother my skin), Deodorant (Couldn’t find one that works), a Night Time Face Cream, and a Cleanser/Toner. So I set out to make the changes and found some awesome smaller businesses that make their own natural products and sell them for a reasonable price. Check ’em out below!

Soap:

Travis Family Farm Product ReviewI’ve always had sensitive skin, so soap has been an issue for me for a long time. Growing up I used Dove, and I never really switched because anything else made my skin break out. I definitely think that Dove is one of the least harsh drug store brads out there, but it isn’t exactly ‘natural’, so I decided to look around. Which lead me to Travis Family Farm. I was really interested in trying their Goat Milk Soap. The fat in the milk helps with irritated skin, while the cream in it helps to moisturize + repair the dry skin. After just one use – I can attest that this is the TRUTH. The soap is very gentle, and works fabulously. My favorite one is the Lavender (I love all things Lavender) but the Oatmeal Milk & Honey comes in at a close second.

Travis Family Farm Product ReviewMy friends at Travis Family Farm also sent me their Goat Milk Body Butter, which was just as fantastic as their soap! Using it after the shower with the Goat Milk Soap = perfect combo. Travis Family Farm also makes an awesome chemical free makeup remover, and Soy Wax candles that smell fantastic. If you’d like to try any of their products you can use coupon code “our gift” for $5.00 off. They’re very reasonably priced 🙂

Lips:

Mizzi Cosmetics Review

I’ve always had an issue with lip products. Scents and dyes irritate my lips, and for as long as I can remember, if I wore anything from Cherry Chapstick to MAC lip gloss – chances are the next morning I’d wake up with dry, cracked lips, and irritated red skin around my mouth (gross). The only things I usually put on my lips are Vaseline, or natural lip balms that have no color or sparkle. Kinda boring for a 22 year old girl. When my mom told me about Lip Luxe by Mizzi Cosmetics – I got super excited. Not only was it a natural lip gloss, but it was made right in Connecticut (yay!). They sent me their Original Whipped Lip Scrub, and Honey Kiss Lip Balm. This scrub makes your lips beyond smooth and when you top it off with the Balm – it is such a perfect combo. Plus, they’re made with ingredients that are (literally) good enough to eat. Talk about a win-win. Even Kylie Jenner uses it. You can use ‘gonatural16’ for 20% off your entire order until Feb 29th. Better hurry up and order – Valentine’s Day is right around the corner 😉

Deodorant:

Green tidings product review

I have tried at least 10 natural deodorants.. and none of them have worked. I just recently threw out almost an entire drawer full of them from my bathroom. These products might have worked for the average person just going through their normal day – but they didn’t work for me. When I work out.. I WORK out. Which usually results in a lot of sweating. I don’t have time to be worrying about whether I smell while I’m trying to hit a new PR or do burpees till I can’t breathe.

Most antiperspirants/deodorants that you’ll find in the store contain aluminum, parabens, and propylene glycol. You can read about why these are so dangerous here. I will honestly admit that I was skeptical that Green Tiding‘s deodorant would be any different from the other ones I had tried, but I was pleasantly surprised. This deodorant actually held up through the sweatiest of workouts. I didn’t smell one bit! Tyler also tried them and felt the same way. These deodorants are non-toxic, organic, vegan, gluten-free, soy free, fragrance free, and have no artificial colors. The minimal ingredients that they do have are easy to read (unlike most drug store brands). I will say that using a deodorant is different from an antiperspirant. The texture is different, and it takes some getting used to – but I think its well worth it knowing that I’m not putting chemicals on my skin. You can get 10% off all of their products with code: 6MWK96D2 through March 1, 2016. They have a 1oz size deodorant if you want to try it before you commit to a full size 🙂

Night Time Cream:

Board and Batten Review

I found Board and Batten one night while scrolling through Instagram. Their ‘Restore Like a Girl cream caught my eye. I love that logo with the girl holding up the weight.. how could you not?! I needed something that I could put on my face before bed during these winter months that bring me chronic dry skin. In addition to having a super cute label,  (and donating a portion of sales to charity!) this product is so gentle and soothing on my dry skin. It has a very light rose scent to it, and works really great.

Board & Batten also sent me a variety of other products to try including their Herbal Facial Creme , Butter Bee Go To Balm and Fig & Turmeric Sugar Scrub. I love the Butter Bee Go to Balm. The balm is perfect for super dry skin. You can put it on anything.. from cracked heels, to dry hands. I also really loved the Sugar Scrub. When I first saw Fig & Turmeric together, I thought it was a strange scent combo, but after applying it on my skin – I fell in love! Board and Batten is offering 20% off our products through Feb 28 with the code ‘naturalbeauty’.

Cleanser + Toner:

Belle & Rose Naturals Review

Belle and Rose Naturals sent me their Organic Skin Care Starter Set, which includes their Organic Raw Honey Cleanser, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar Toner and Organic Skin Cream. They also sent me their new Hemp Seed Oil Cleanser. This products are made with all natural ingredients but packed with natural antibacterial ingredients – meaning these are gentle enough for sensitive skin, but strong enough to clean acne prone skin. I followed the instructions on the Laura’s etsy store, started with the Raw Honey Cleanser. I left it on my skin for about 3 minutes and then rinsed it off. I patted my skin dry and applied a little bit of the Apple Cider Vinegar Toner.  I topped it off with the Organic Skin Cream – and when I was finished my skin was practically glowing.

I haven’t used a cleanser in a long time. Most drug store cleansers are very harsh, and loaded with alcohol, which makes my skin even drier and more irritated than before I started. This cleanser is super gentle, but actually works. I’m not normally prone to acne, but might skin looked might brighter and cleaner after using these than it normally would. You can get 20% off of all of Belle & Rose Natural’s products with coupon code: CLEAN20.

5 Natural Beauty Swaps You Can Make Right Now

I know that I’m always hesitant to try new beauty products, especially if there is a larger price tag on them. I hope that my reviews helped give you better insight on these products, and that you decide to try them out for yourself!

Totally agree, Mckenna! I have awful eczema – I’ll have to try shea butter. I have used products that are made with shea butter, but never just shea butter alone!

  1. I am definitely trying that deodorant. I’ve tried several natural products as well and they never seem to work.

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Check it out!! It really works, and it is reasonably priced. I’m a fan 🙂

  2. I love that there are so many natural beauty products that have short lists of ingredients + being gentle on skin like mine which is pretty sensitive.

  3. Super helpful post! I’m trying to move in that direction and it’s hard to know where to start. Any recommendations for dry shampoo? I’m struggling to find an all natural replacement.

Truthfully.. I’ve never used dry shampoo, so I don’t have a reco on a natural one. I have had this DIY recipe pinned for a while, but I haven’t tried it. – http://wellnessmama.com/5047/dry-shampoo/ If you try it let me know what you think 🙂

  4. That’s awesome!
I’ve been trying my hand at more natural things lately. I make a homemade deodorant and my mom makes a homemade oil-pull face wash that I use. I’m all for natural brands if they don’t break the bank!

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

I like to make my own products too, but it’s nice to be able to buy them at an affordable price! I haven’t tried making my own deodorant yet, but when I run out of the green tidings I might give it a try 🙂

  5. Ohh I may need to try these!
    They look promising 🙂

    xoxo, Jenny

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Yes! They are definitely promising! Check them out. 🙂

  6. Bri Bri

It’s amazing how effective natural beauty products are! All my make up is from 100% Pure, my face cleanser/toner/moisturizer is from Silk Road, and I buy whatever local natural soap is available at the local health food store 🙂

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Right?! They’re so powerful! I love it 🙂

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Look it up and get some of it!! It seriously is awesome! And the scrub is really great for getting rid of dry skin near your lips.

  7. Lots of good stuff here! I’m slowly making the swaps from chemical-laden to more natural products. I use coconut oil as a go-to for my skin and hair. It’s not so good as a lip moisturizer, however (not thick enough.)

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Thanks, Rica! Agreed with the coconut oil.. I use it alot too, but it isn’t thick enough for your lips!

  8. Elana Elana

I think my next 30 Day Challenge may be incorporating more natural beauty products into my routine so this was so helpful!

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

You definitely should try that, Elana! It’s fairly easy to make the switch 🙂

  9. I’ve never really tried any natural beauty products, but I break out so much that I probably should look into it

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

You definitely should, Audrey! There are natural elements that can be really great for acne/break outs. I’d look into the Belle & Rose products – they were specifically formulated for acne prone skin!

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Me too, Annaliese! Glad you liked this post 🙂

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Really gross!! I hate it. These actually work 🙂

  10. ooo that Goat’s milk soap sounds interesting. I’m going to have to order it! I have really sensitive skin so anything that can help I am definitely buying 🙂

  11. I just switched to natural soap and love it! I also feel so much better about using it on my skin.

What brand do you use Kayla?? I’m always looking to try new products!

  12. Great suggestions. I really like natural products, especially on my face, but I will say I debate using it as deodorant. I’ve got a mental block that tells me there is no way it will work the way it is supposed to, which is probably stupid, but that’s my worry. – Katy

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

I understand, Katy… The deodorant was hard to make the switch, but I know I’m better off without the yucky ingredients that are in some of the antiperspirants – so I just try to not think about it 🙂

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

Yes!! Definitely! The soaps are so awesome 🙂

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

It’s taken me a while to find one that I actually like. I would definitely give it a try!

I’ve had a horrible time finding a natural deodorant that really works. My most recent attempt was Piper Wai, which worked for awhile but now just doesn’t seem to hold up anymore. I’ll definitely look into the Green Tidings. I’m also hearing a lot about Primal Pit Paste, have you tried that one yet?

    • thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com thecleaneatingcouple@gmail.com

  31. As a vegan I’m all about cruelty-free and natural products. I have used the crystal deodorant and it has worked really well for me. I know it doesn’t work for everyone, my sister tried it and it didn’t do anything for her. I’m glad you shared this amazing products.

I have never tried crystal deodorant, but I’d be interested to see how it works. I’m pretty sure that all of these products are vegan, but I’d have to go back and look at all the ingredients. There are so many great natural beauty products out there, and having them be cruelty free is just an awesome added bonus!

  32. I’ll have to admit I’m a little bummed. I was quite excited to try these products and I guess they just don’t want to ship to Canada. Shipping costs are more than the product or they just don’t ship to us. You get all the good stuff there. Guess I’ll keep looking. 🙂
