Friday Five 9.25

It’s been a pretty low key week..If you follow us on Instagram you know that Tyler and I are both sick. I got sick on Sunday, and woke up sick Wednesday morning. We both rarely EVER get sick.. (Which I believe is partially because we fuel ourselves with good food, drink a lot of water, and sleep) Buuut we were clearly both burning the candle at both ends.. so here we are.  Despite being sick, I had a pretty great week, with lots of good foodie finds. Here’s my Friday Five:

Apple Picking-1

1. Apple Picking
Over the weekend I was able to go apple picking with my cousin and adorable godson. It was his first time apple picking. Isn’t he the cutest ? I’ve been eating apples non-stop.. because they’re SO delish! We picked Macintosh & Macoun’s. One of my favorite healthy desserts to make with the apples is to chop them up, toss them in a little bit of melted coconut oil, sprinkle with cinnamon & ginger and bake at 450 for 5-10 minutes. You can do this with pretty much any fruit, but my favorite is definitely apples! It’s still early in the season for apple picking so hopefully I’ll go again!

Pumpkin Spice Whey Protein

2. Pumpkin Spice Protein

Yep. It’s back my friends. If you love Pumpkin Spice, and you love protein shakes, then you NEED to add this to your stash! Each year About Time comes out with a seasonal Pumpkin Spice Whey Protein. It’s only here for a limited time, and sells out pretty quickly…so if you’re interested – I’d get it while you can! It’s $51.99 but when you use our 25% off coupon code: CLEANEATING it comes out to only $39.99 for the 2 lb container. Totally worth it.

3. Popcorn

The second that it gets too chilly to go to the beach, I pretty much turn on Winter mode. Which means that after 8 PM you can find me in bed with Netflix on. Ty and I just started watching Narcos, which is a Netflix original series. It reminds me a little bit of Breaking Bad… it’s really good! I can’t sit and watch TV or a movie without a snack. If I’m craving sweet I always reach for a square of Lindt Touch of Sea Salt Dark Chocolate but most of the time I’ll just stick with popcorn. It’s high in fiber, low in fat, and fairly low in carbs compared to other ‘snacky’ foods. We have a Popcorn Popper which I firmly believe EVERYONE needs in their home.

Spaghetti SquashChicken Zoodle Soup

4. Pasta alternatives

Even though I looooove pasta (Like really.. really… really love it), I try to stay away from it most of the time. Normally I enjoy pasta on one of my higher carb day, but this week my macros were shifted around a bit, so that I was eating a moderate amount of carbs every day, with no high carb days. This week I enjoyed two of my favorite pasta alternatives- spaghetti squash and zoodles! Spaghetti squash season is in its peak right now. If you’ve never had the veggie, it’s great!  You just bake it, and pull apart the inside which automatically cooks into a pasta- like texture. I had spaghetti squash with a zucchini/tomato sauce, but I also used it as a side with my grilled chicken for lunch. My go- to pasta alternative is always zoodles. The other night Tyler’s mom made us Chicken Noodle soup.. I skipped the noodles and used my spiralizer to add zoodles. It was tasty!

Yankees Game

5. Baseball Season

Everyone is all excited for football.. meanwhile I’m over here like helllooooo.. baseball is still in full swing, and getting to the best part of the season! We’re heading to New York to watch the Yanks take on the White Sox tonight. I’m a Red Sox fan but I’ll play the good girlfriend role tonight and wear my Yankees tank top just to be supportive 😉

  1. I really enjoy your blog. I just ordered the pumpkin spice protein powder and look forward to trying it. I was sold when I saw it’s made with stevia. I’m working hard on my cholesterol and making smoothies galore with everything healthy that’s close enough to toss in. I’m loving chia, hemp, kale, and coconut butter this week. I just called my daughter who uses a spiralizer to make veggie noodles and she’s bringing hers over so I can try it out. Since I’m a big spaghetti squash fan I figure I should start noodling everthing else. Your ideas broaden my variety. Thanks.

Thank you so much, Lisa! Your comment just made my day. I hope you enjoy your PS Protein Powder 🙂 All of About Time’s products are sweetened with stevia – which is great! That smoothie combo sounds delicious.. I like adding ginger to mine! I’m sure you will love the spiralizer! It is perfect for making healthy alternatives to pasta! Have a fabulous weekend 🙂

It definitely is, Lori! So yummy 🙂

  3. That’s so cool that you live near an apple orchard! I also love your quick apple recipe…I’ll have to try that soon! We’ve been obsessed with spaghetti squash lately as well. Such a delicious alternative to wheat pasta too. I just need to get a spiralizer! So many delicious recipes I’ve been seeing out there! Hope you guys start to feel better soon!

We live near SO many of them 🙂 It’s one of the best things about New England in the fall. Definitely invest in a spiralizer.. It’s one of the best things I ever bought! I use it all the time. It’s so fun to make veggie and fruit noodles out of it. There are a ton of recipes out there for amazing dishes made without real pasta! My favorite foodie blogger is Ali Maffucci at Everytime I read her post I’m amazed that they’re all made with a spiralizer!
