I’m sure if you’ve looked on any healthy food blog, or perused through healthy food photos on Instagram – chances are you’ve seen some sort of hemp based product.
Maybe you saw hemp hearts being used as the finishing touch on a smoothie bowl… or hemp protein being blended up for a post workout treat.
Regardless, there’s a lot of hype about hemp, and rightfully so.
Hemp has a great nutritional profile. 30% of the seeds are composed entirely from healthy fats. It has various essential fatty acids like linoleic and alpha linoleic acid – both of which are important to maintain a healthy diet.
Hemp is loaded with fiber. Hemp seeds have soluble and insoluble fiber – which can both support your digestive health. (Yay for a happy gut!)
Hemp also can help your skin. Fatty acids have been known to help repair damaged skin. Whether you suffer from eczema, cracked hands/feet, or overall dry skin – studies have shown that hemp oil can be an effective way to treat these issues.
Hemp is a plant based protein. This means that vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, and those who follow dairy/lactose free, or paleo diets can all enjoy it!
So clearly… hemp is pretty darn awesome. Enter: Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart Bars
Manitoba Harvest is one of the leading producers in high quality hemp products. From hemp hearts, to hemp bites (that I reviewed back in September) and hemp protein – they make some of my favorite products! When I was offered the opportunity to try their new Hemp Heart Bars through my affiliation with Sweat Pink – I was SO excited!
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Heart bars are made primarily from hemp hearts and a few other natural ingredients (all of which you can read – yay! No nasty artificial stuff here 🙂 ) They have three different flavors : vanilla, chocolate and apple cinnamon. Each 45 gram bar contains 10 grams of plant-based protein and 10 grams of omegas. The apple cinnamon was definitely my favorite. I put it in a plate and popped it into the microwave for a few seconds and it was delicious! I ate the chocolate and vanilla as pre workout snacks and they both helped me stay fueled through a tough workout. I’m a big fan of hemp protein, and these bars. Whey protein tends to bother my stomach, so it’s nice to know that there are tasty plant based options like this to rely on!
Manitoba Harvest is giving away a box of these tasty new bars. All you need to do is tag @manitobaharvest and @fitapproach and use #hempheartbar #fuelledbyhemp and #sweatpink 🙂 The contest is open to US and Canada residents, and full contest details can be found here.
