Today we’re talking about one of my favorite additions to my health/wellness routine: CBD. While we mainly focus on food, over the past few months many of you asked me about CBD after I talked about it on our Instagram.
After months of doing my own research, buying, and testing out products for myself, I’ve finally found a brand that I love and want to share it all with you.
I’ve partnered up with Luce Farm to bring you this post all about CBD. I’m going to share CBD’s benefits, answer your questions about CBD and talk about what I personally use it for.
This post is SUPER detailed and long because I wanted to answer all of the questions you submitted, but I think it’s worth reading right up ’til the very end! As with anything I share, this is simply what works for me and the research I’ve done.
I encourage you to do your own research, make your own choices, and possibly speak with your doctor about CBD before trying it. Nothing below is intended to be taken as medical advice.

What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the major chemical compounds in the cannabis plant. Unlike the more widely known chemical compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is non-toxicating.
Is CBD legal?
CBD products that don’t have THC fall outside the scope of the U.S. Controlled Substances Act, which means that yes, CBD is currently legal everywhere in the United States.
What’s the difference between CBD and THC?
There is a long, scientific answer to this question, and there is a shorter one.. I’ll spare you the science and speak in layman’s terms. CBD and THC both interact with the cannabinoid receptors found in our bodies.
THC is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, meaning it gives you a ‘high’. CBD, on the other hand, does not have the same chemical makeup as THC (the atoms are different if you want to take a trip back to high school chemistry) and therefore is known for not giving you a high or affecting your cognitive abilities.
Is there THC in CBD?
Technically, a very, very small amount. Luce Farm CBD products are fully tested and verified by third party analytical labs and contain no more than 0.3% of THC, which is the legal limit for THC in CBD products.
I can’t speak on behalf of other brands or products. You will need to check depending on the brand you choose to purchase

If you take a drug test, will it shows that you took CBD oil?
Most likely, a drug test will not be looking for CBD. With that being said, Luce Farm’s products contain full spectrum CBD oil which means there are trace amounts of THC.
It is always below 0.3% THC which makes their products legal to sell (and classifies it as hemp) and will not cause any intoxication from taking.
If a person is concerned about using CBD at a job where they have a drug test, the experts at Luce Farm recommend reaching out to your Human Resources department to make sure there are not any problems.
Luce Farm can provide their test results to anyone who wants to talk with their workplace about using CBD in their wellness regimen.
What are the benefits of CBD?
There are many potential benefits of CBD. Everyone is different and has different reactions to products. This article on healthline has links to multiple studies related to the benefits of CBD.
Here are some of the questions I got related to the benefits of CBD and my answer for you.
- Does CBD help with anxiety?
- Does CBD help with headaches?
- Does CBD help with sleep?
- Does CBD help with pain?
- Does CBD help with menopausal symptoms?
- Does CBD help with menstrual cramps?
The answer: yes! CBD can help with any of those things. Keyword: can! You will need to test it out yourself, play around with the dosage and use it consistently to see its benefits. I personally use CBD to help with my anxiety and my sleep, which I will get into later on.

How do you take CBD?
You can take CBD in a number of different forms. Luce Farm has multiple products and you can choose which one fits best with your lifestyle.
- Full Spectrum Hemp Extract– CBD Oil Mixed with MCT Oil
- Hemp Honey– CBD extract infused into honey
- Hemp Coconut Oil – CBD extract infused coconut oil (what I usually use!)
- Hemp Topical Balm – A mix of cocoa butter, oils, and CBD extract that can be applied topically
When are you supposed to take CBD?
Depending on what you’re taking CBD for, the time at which you choose to use it will vary. I personally take it in the morning and at night.
It typically takes 20-40 minutes for the effects to kick in, so depending on what you are using it for, you can plan your schedule around that.
How much CBD should you take?
A serving of CBD is not one size fits all. Everybody is affected differently by CBD and each person must do a little trial and error to see what their perfect dose is.
The Luce Farm Team suggests starting out low with a 10-12 mg serving. Another factor is why you are taking CBD. That will affect the amount you should take.
Why I use CBD
I started using CBD about a year ago as a way to help with my sleep and anxiety. I’ve struggled with anxiety for years and while there is nothing wrong with going on medication, I wanted to try to find a natural thing to help with it.
After seeing people talk about CBD I decided to do my own research and give it a shot. I tried a few brands and while they might have worked, I feel like it was more of a placebo effect than anything.
A few months ago I found Luce Farm at a local shop and after chatting with the shop owner who personally used CBD for anxiety, I figured I would give it a try. He suggested adding the Luce Farm Hemp Coconut Oil to my morning coffee or turmeric latte.
The oil melts into the coffee and gave it a little bit of an earthy taste, but nothing overpowering. After only a few days I could notice a difference. Anxiety manifests differently in everyone, but for me, I often feel overwhelmed with things that really shouldn’t be overwhelming, and it prevents me from being able to complete tasks.
When I take CBD in the morning I feel like I can focus on things and actually complete tasks rather than being overwhelmed by them. I also just feel overall more calm rather than being on edge all the time (something I also struggle with).
At night, I like to use CBD to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. My anxiety also sometimes prevents me from falling asleep. I often can stay awake for hours thinking of things I need to do, reminders I need to set, etc.
It’s very hard for me to turn my brain ‘off’. A few drops of the Hemp Extract under my tongue about an hour before bed helps me to unwind and drift off into an awesome sleep!
I also enjoy the Hemp Honey in tea or coffee, or just by the teaspoon. It’s so delicious! The Hemp Balm is great for sore muscles, and I also apply it to my temples when I have a headache.

How do you know what CBD to get?
One of the questions I was asked was how do you know you’re getting the best quality with all the brands popping up? With this industry being so new, it can definitely be hard to know a quality product when you see it!
Our friends at Luce Farm recommended a few key things to look for when purchasing a CBD product.
- That it actually contains CBD. This may seem crazy but there are a lot of brands trying to jump on the “hype” of CBD and creating products that do not contain hemp but HEMPSEED OIL. Hempseed oil contains no active cannabinoids and although it is a great fatty food to incorporate into your diet it will not help with anything that CBD helps with.
- Look for products made with USA grown hemp. It’s even better if these brands promote the farm so you can have full transparency into the process
- There are test results available by a third party. This shows the amount of CBD a company claims is in their product is accurate.
Why Luce Farm CBD?
Honestly, I did a lot of research before finding a brand I really liked and trusted. I had previously purchased CBD from a few other brands but they were nowhere near as transparent or pure as Luce Farm is.
It’s made on a farm not too far from me in Vermont (I’m hoping to visit it next year!) and it is run by people who are truly out to help people, vs some other companies that are trying to make a quick dollar on this newer trend in wellness.
In addition to being transparent as a company, I liked the minimal ingredients in their products. Many other CBD brands have fillers or added unnecessary junk in them.
I found oils that were sweetened with stevia and had other random things in them that I needed to google to find out what they were. As with all things I put into my body, I like to be able to look at a label, know what I’m consuming, and feel good about it.
Lastly, I found that their CBD actually worked for me. As I mentioned earlier in the post, with some of the other brands I tried I felt as if I was really just experiencing more of a placebo effect. With Luce Farm’s products, I can actually feel a difference!
CBD is so personal to everyone, and you might have a different experience than I do. However – I hope this post is super helpful to you! If you have questions feel free to leave them below and I’ll see if I can answer them!
