Healthy Chocolate Pudding is rich, creamy and made with just 7 simple ingredients in 15 minutes. Refined sugar free and delicious!

This Healthy Chocolate Pudding is rich, creamy and tastes just like the classic chocolate pudding you grew up with (but better!).
Made with only 7 simple ingredients like whole milk, cocoa powder and maple syrup, it’s naturally sweetened with no refined sugar and comes together on the stovetop in about 15 minutes.
Liz Tips for the Best Chocolate Pudding
- Use good quality cocoa powder: Don’t buy the cheap stuff. We like this organic cocoa powder!
- Really whisk the ingredients together well: Don’t be afraid to whisk hard! You want to make sure the cocoa powder and cornstarch mix into the milk.
substitutions
Milk: I have only tested this recipe with whole milk. I don’t know how dairy free milks will work.
Maple Syrup: You can substitute honey for maple syrup. I wouldn’t recommend raw honey
Cocoa Powder: Any cocoa powder will work, but I recommend a good quality organic cocoa powder
Cornstarch: I haven’t tested any substitutes for cornstarch. Tapioca starch might work, but I can’t be sure without trying.
Butter: Adding butter at the end just gives the pudding a smoother mouth feel. You can skip it if you’d like
Vanilla Extract: You can skip the vanilla extract if you’d like.
After making our homemade gummy worms last week, I realized our daughter had never had a ‘dirt’ cup (one of my favorite treats as a kid!)
I used this as the base, added some cookie crumbles, a cut up gummy worm and these cute dye free eye sprinkles.

How to Serve Healthy Chocolate Pudding:
This pudding is delicious as is but here are a few ways we love to enjoy it:
- As a ‘dirt cup’ dessert (we made it spooky for halloween!)
- Homemade whipped cream (super easy to make by whipping heavy cream and sweetening with a bit of maple syrup)
- Add sprinkles
storage
Storing: This will last in the refrigerator for up to 5 days in an airtight container or sealed tightly with plastic wrap
Freezing: You can’t freeze this recipe.
