Best Bread for Bruschetta
The best bread for bruschetta is a baguette or ciabatta bread. A Baguette is best because you can slice it into small individual circles. Ciabatta works well too, but it’s usually larger and will be harder to eat!
How to Make Homemade Bruschetta
- In a bowl mix together tomatoes, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, basil, salt and pepper. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- While tomatoes marinate, slice and toast bread. Scoop tomatoes on top of the bread and enjoy!

Should bruschetta topping be hot or cold?
Bruschetta should be served at room temp. You don’t want it to be warm, but if it’s ice cold the olive oil will solidify. It’s best at room temp!
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR BRUSCHETTA
Olive Oil: We don’t recommend substituting olive oil.
Tomatoes: Cherry or grape tomatoes work best in this recipe but you can also use roma tomatoes or heirloom tomatoes.
Balsamic Vinegar: You can also use balsamic glaze instead of balsamic vinegar
Fresh Basil: We really recommend using fresh basil here and not dried spices. The flavor is so much better!
Tips for Homemade Bruschetta
- Let your bruschetta sit for at least 5 minutes before serving – this helps the flavors meld together.
- Use good tomatoes! Fresh, sweet cherry or grape tomatoes are the best tomatoes in bruschetta. Make sure to taste the tomatoes before making bruschetta to make sure they have good flavor!

What goes with bruschetta?
Anything! A glass of wine, we love it as a side with fresh pasta like our zesty Healthy Creamy Lemon Pasta or Chicken Parmesan One Pot Pasta!
