I can’t even tell you how long it’s been since I’ve had a glass of lemonade…Maybe 5 or 6 years? Maybe longer. In general, juice isn’t something we normally buy because it’s loooooaded with sugar. I feel like lemonade in particular has even more sugar than most juices.. and it also has a weird flavor when you buy it pre-made/bottled. Is it me or is that a think? It’s like a fake lemon flavor. Not a fan.
I’ll admit that I shamelessly love the powdered Country Time lemonade mix that you can grab at the grocery store.. You know.. the one that’s probably loaded with all kinds dye and buckets of sugar. It’s SO good. You know you love it too. As a kid in the summer time my mom would sometimes make pitchers of it and keep it in the fridge for a treat after school. I’d always look forward to coming home and having a glass!
The other day I had the strangest craving for lemonade. We were sitting out by the pool and I saw someone with a pitcher of it pouring up cups and it made me want a glass so bad! When we got to the grocery store that afternoon I considered buying a little container of the mix. Then I looked at saw that it had 35G of sugar in a 12 oz serving… Uhm… what? NO THANKS.
I’m not opposed to having treats, or sugar in moderation. Your girl LOVES some chocolate mousse or ice cream). But I knew that it probably wouldn’t taste as good as I imagined it would, and I could likely just make it at home with better ingredients. (Plus I’d rather eat my sugar in the form of a delicious dessert, not one small drink) Since I was already being all fancy by making my own lemonade, I figured I might as well go all the way and jazz it up by adding mint. Lemon and mint is one of my favorite combinations. It’s super refreshing. The tart lemons, cool mint, and little hint of sweetness from the honey in this recipe make it absolutely delicious + perfect for cooling off with during the summer heat.

I’ve already made this twice since my first time making it. The second time I muddled in fresh strawberries which was absolutely delicious.. The other time I might have added vodka + cucumbers to make the most refreshing summer cocktail.. stay tuned, because I’m sharing the recipe for that one next week!
I hope you love cooling off with this as much as I do!
