Ok, you guys all LOVED my Whole30 Trader Joe’s Shopping List & Whole30 ALDI Shopping List so much, that I knew I had to bring you one for everyone’s favorite store – Target!
I love shopping at Target but I’ll be honest… I wasn’t totally impressed with their options in terms of packaged/frozen goods. Many of their products contained non-compliant ingredients but I was able to find a few great things that I highly recommend.
If I were you – I’d definitely start my Whole30 shopping at Trader Joe’s before heading anywhere, but if Target is closest to you – here are some of my Target Whole30 Necessities!
Did you know I have a FREE 7 Day Whole30 Meal Plan? Click here for your copy!
An important note: Please double check ALL of the ingredients on any item you buy during your Whole30. Grocers frequently change their products/ingredients and I would hate for you to have to restart your Whole30 if one of these ingredients are no longer compliant.
Target Whole30 Pantry Staples
A lot of Whole30 pantry staples can be found at Target. They’re affordable and convenient for stocking up on! Here are some of the things I like to keep on hand…
Flours: Coconut & Almond Flour are great to have on hand for making Whole30 friendly versions of your favorite things (Like my Clean Eating Chicken Tenders that are delish!) Almond flour is good for using to make a crispy coating on things or thickening meatballs/burgers.

Oils, Ghees + Vinegars – Target has many different oils to choose from. Their balsamic vinegars aren’t all Whole30 as some have added sugars. Just read your labels and you should be good to go!

Salsa: I was super disappointed in the salsa options at Target! So many had sugar which was such a bummer. I did find the Simply Balanced Roasted Restaurant Style Salsa + Simply Balanced Roasted Garlic Salsa were Whole30 compliant. I bought both + we really liked them!
The Market Pantry Chunky Salsa + Archer Farms Roasted Tomato & Chipotle Salsas were also Whole30 compliant. Salsas are perfect for putting on eggs, adding into recipes (Sometimes I throw a jar into my Paleo Turkey Chili for extra flavor), or just adding on top of meals. I love this Roasted Garlic Salsa on top of my Whole30 Chicken Fajitas!
Diced tomatoes – Almost all of the Market Pantry brand canned tomatoes were Whole30 compliant. These are great for making chili or your own tomato sauce!

Jarred Sauce – I found the Simply Balanced line had 2 Whole30 compliant jarred sauces – Organic Garlic Marinara Pasta Sauce and Organic Portobello Mushroom Pasta Sauce. Our Target also carried Rao’s and Victoria’s which both have Whole30 friendly options. Honestly though.. you can buy canned tomatoes and make my healthy crockpot tomato sauce in basically no time + you’ll have an even better (and cheaper) sauce!
Canned Tuna – I found 3 Simply Balanced canned tunas that were Whole30 compliant: Wild Albacore Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Wild Skipjack Solid Light Tuna in Water/Sea Salt, Wild Albacore Tuna in Water/Sea Salt. Always double check when buying canned tuna. Many are packed in canola oil which isn’t compliant!
Sparkling Water – The Simply Balanced line of sparkling waters is all Whole30 approved! Target also sells La Croix, Bubbly, Polar, and Spindrift which are also Whole30 approved and a great alternative if you find yourself getting bored with plain water!
Target Whole30 Frozen Foods

Frozen Burgers – Simply Balanced All Natural Turkey Burgers and Chicken Burgers are Whole30 compliant. I haven’t tried either but they looked pretty good!

Seafood – Target had a lot of frozen Whole30 Seafood options. The Market Pantry Frozen Shrimp, and Simply Balanced Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, Alaska Keta Salmon, and Tilapia Filets were all Whole30 approved.
Veggies – I love frozen veggies and there were a few options if you do too! I found Market Pantry brand broccoli, green beans, butternut squash, and sweet potatoes.
Target Whole30 Snacks
Freeze Dried Fruit – I seriously love Target’s freeze dried fruit line! These are great if you are traveling and can’t necessarily pack a big bag of fruits/veggies. Many just have one ingredient (fruit!) but double check because some are sweetened. The freeze dried strawberries are my favorite.

Bars – Target sells LaraBars, RXBars, That’s It Bars, and Epic Bars – many of which are Whole30. These are great if you need a quick snack, but really should only be used as an emergency food. They also had unsweetened applesauce pouches which would be good in a pinch!

Nut Butters: The only Whole30 friendly nut butter I could find at my Target was their All Natural Creamy Almond Butter. It is very smooth + not gritty at all! Their Simply Balanced Cashew Butter is also Whole30 but unfortunately, ours didn’t have it in stock!

Nuts/Seeds -They have any and every nut/seed you can think of at Target. All of the raw nuts are Whole compliant, and great for making Easy Homemade Walnut Milk or Almond Milk. Unfortunately, many of the roasted nuts are roasted in peanut oil, but I found that the roasted pistachios and roasted macadamia nuts were compliant. Be sure to double check because ingredients can change! Try to stay away from the trail mixes.. even the ones that just have fruit and nuts are usually noncompliant (the fruit is often sweetened with sugar)
All the fruit and veggies. Target has awesome priced produce (in my opinion) I love buying their carrots, peppers, and berries for snacking on!
Target Whole30 Produce/Meat
Basically, anything in the produce section is Whole30 approved. You know the deal.. basically eat all the fruits and veggies! Target had good prices on berries, veggies, and some good quality meat. Truthfully, again… I think Trader Joe’s has far better options, but if you’re willing to poke through what Target has, there are some good finds!
Mary says
I picked up the almond butter today and it’s got 3 grams of total sugars & 1 gram added sugar. Is this really compliant??
The Clean Eating Couple says
Hi Mary – When on the whole30 you need to look at the ingredients, not the nutrition facts. Almonds have naturally occurring sugars. The almond butter I have from costco only has one ingredient: roasted almonds. As long as you have the same one, it is compliant!
