I freakin’ love tacos. I always have, and I always will. They’re just SO good. When I was a kid I would look forward to when my mom would make them for dinner. My favorite way to eat them used to be with loads of cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce + olives. With a side of chips.. because duh, the more salt and carbs the better, and you obviously need some sort of vessel to eat all the stuff that falls out of the taco.
SO yummy, but not exactly what I would consider the healthiest food though because of how I was eating them…Don’t get me wrong – sometimes I still eat tacos with a ton of chips and metly cheese.. but I have since found a way to make them a little bit better for you!
I really don’t like to food bash things, but one of the main things that make tacos so unhealthy are those store-bought taco seasoning mixes. If you take a look at any popular taco mix packet at the store you will find that some of the ingredients include Maltodextrin, Modified Corn Starch, ‘Natural Flavor’, and Caramel Color, along with with close to 500 mg of sodium per tablespoon (Crazy!) The thing is… NONE of those things are necessary. If you were making something at home I doubt you’d go, ‘oh this looks like it needs a pinch of caramel color’, or ‘This tastes off.. maybe a bit of maltodextrin will do the trick’. IDK about you, but these aren’t things I keep in my pantry, and I prefer to cook with things that I have on hand/know what they are.
Enter: Healthy Taco Seasoning.
With this blend… you won’t need those packets again! I know that the packets can be super convenient sometimes, but once you make your own spice blend, you won’t want to go back. Making your own spice blends can be just as quick (and even cheaper). I make a giant batch of it once every few months, store it in an airtight container, and then whenever it’s taco night (pretty much every Tuesday in our house) I just sprinkle it over ground turkey. Seriously.. it couldn’t be easier!
IDK about you guys, but I pretty much never get sick of tacos. My favorite way to eat them now is with lettuce wraps, ground turkey (with my healthy taco seasoning on it of course) loads of guacamole, fresh tomato salsa, and a little bit of cheddar cheese. What are your favorite ways to eat them??

- 3 tablespoon paprika
- 2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoons cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
In a jar, add all spices. Shake + store in an airtight container. Use 2 tbsp of seasoning per 1 lb of ground meat when making tacos
