The Best Homemade Guacamole Recipe is easy to make and absolutely delicious. Perfect with chips as an easy homemade snack!

While store bought guacamole is very convenient, it’s actually extremely easy to make this homemade guacamole and it’s much more delicious!
Fresh guacamole is a creamy and flavorful dip packed with healthy fats and nutrients made with only 8 ingredients (ripe avocados, zesty lime juice, and a medley of herbs and spices).
Whether you’re hosting a gathering, potluck, or simply craving a delicious snack, this homemade guacamole is sure to hit the spot!
Use this guacamole as a dip or on top of your favorite Healthy Taco Salad or Chicken Fajitas. If you’re feeding a crowd, double the recipe (or make an enchilada dip) and pair it with a pitcher of the best skinny margaritas .
Liz’s tips for homemade guacamole
- Pick perfectly ripe avocados! You’ll want them to be slightly squishy when you press on the outside of the skin.
- Use plastic wrap to keep guacamole from turning brown! Guacamole turns brown when exposed to air, so the key is keeping air out. The best method is to press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole when storing to prevent oxidation. There’s nothing wrong with guacamole turning brown, it’s just the avocados naturally oxidizing. You can usually just stir it up, and no one will even notice it’s browned, and it shouldn’t affect the taste!

substitutions and additions
Avocados: Avocados can’t be substituted in guac. If you can’t have avocados, guacamole isn’t for you! Try our Corn Salsa or Pineapple Mango Salsa instead.
White Onion: You can substitute white onion with red onion, but I find white to be a little more milder.
Cherry Tomatoes: Tomatoes are optional in guacamole, but recommended. If you don’t have cherry tomatoes you can use chopped roma tomatoes or really any type of tomato (you could even try pico de Gallo)! If you love tomatoes, try our Homemade Bruschetta.
Jalapeños: Feel free to skip the jalapenos if you don’t like the added spice.
Cilantro: Cilantro can be omitted or replaced with parsley.
Fresh Lime Juice, Salt & Pepper are all very important for giving guacamole flavor!
How to make Guacamole

- In a large bowl, mash the avocado with a fork. You can leave some chunks, or mash until smooth!

- Add onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper to the avocado mash. Stir until combined.

- Serve with chips & enjoy!
How to serve
Everything goes great with this homemade guacamole recipe! Here are some of our favorite things to serve it with:
If you’re looking for a low carb option, we love this Healthy Taco Salad Recipe!
It’s great as a topping on tacos, our Taco Skillet Recipe, Keto Bell Pepper Nachos, Taco Casserole Bake, Crock Pot Chicken Fajitas, or Shrimp Fajitas.
It might seem odd, but it’s even great on these Homemade Turkey Burgers or as an avocado substitution in this 7 layer taco dip.
We also believe there’s nothing better than a Skinny Margarita with a bowl of tortilla chips and guacamole.

Storage
How long does guacamole last? Guacamole is best enjoyed fresh but will last up to 2 days in the refrigerator. When storing, keep in an airtight container and press plastic wrap into the top of the guacamole to prevent it from going brown.
Can you freeze guacamole? We don’t recommend freezing guacamole. It doesn’t taste as good as it does when made fresh. It takes minutes to make, so your best option is to make it fresh and enjoy it!
