Liz’s Tips for simple fruit salad
- Make sure your fruit is dried off well. Drying off your fruit with a clean paper towel can prevent your fruit salad from getting watery.
- Chop your fruit into similar size pieces. Try to cut your pineapple and kiwi to be roughly the same size pieces as the strawberries/blackberries.
Ingredients

SUBSTITUTIONS
Strawberries: For a more tart fruit salad, and if they are available, try white strawberries.
Mandarin Oranges: You can try 1 cup fresh clementines or other fresh oranges.
Blackberries: Substitute blackberries with any berries (raspberries or blueberries).
Pineapple: We don’t recommend canned pineapple, but it can be used here. Just be sure to drain it well.
Lime Juice: Fresh squeezed lime juice is best!
Add Ins: Mangos, grapes or blueberries would all be delicious in this easy fruit salad.
What fruits should not be mixed in fruit salad? It’s best to skip bananas and watermelon in a fruit salad. Watermelon can make your fruit salad very soggy and watery. Bananas easily fall apart in fruit salad and have an overpowering taste. Apples taste good in a fruit salad but easily turn brown so we don’t recommend adding them in this fruit salad.
How to Make a Simple Fruit Salad

- In a large mixing bowl, add the strawberries, oranges, blackberries, kiwis, pineapple, lime juice, and mint.

- Toss together with two spoons. Serve immediately, or cover and set in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve.

Prepping the Fruit – Size Matters
When prepping your fruit salad, try to cut your pieces evenly. Since strawberries and blackberries are the smallest fruits in the salad, try to cut your pineapple in roughly the same size square as a strawberry or blackberry.
Cutting fruit in the same size will make the salad easier to eat and enjoy!

Storing: This will last in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container. You can store it with a paper towel in the container and change the paper towel daily to preserve freshness. However, it is best the day it’s made.
