If you’ve never made caramelized onions… what exactly are you doing with your life?? (kidding, but not really… cause DAMN they are good!)
For years – I was the pickiest eater. Onions were pretty much always a no go in my book. They had too harsh of a flavor for my boring palate. (I was the kid growing up who scraped CHEESE off of their pizza. Like what??? Why?? I wish I could take all those years, and that cheese, back)

Then one day I went out for burgers and my order came with caramelized onions on it accidentally.
I was too hungry to send it back, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to try them.. And I’m SO glad I did, because now I’m pretty much obsessed.

As with most things, once I tried it – I wanted to make it myself. But when I looked at recipes.. everything had about half a stick of butter in it. Which – don’t get me wrong, I love some buttery deliciousness – but also didn’t want to make something super heavy.
I knew there had to be a healthier way to caramelize onions.
I figured that olive oil and butter were both a source of fat.. and they could probably do the same thing. So I gave it a shot.
A little love, some salt, white wine, and some extra time over the stove (you gotta do these low and slow!) led to EPIC Healthy Caramelized Onions!
Things we used for this recipe: olive oil, salt, white wine, pan set

While they may not exactly look pretty – these healthy caramelized onions are perfect for putting on just about anything!
We use them in my Sweet Potato Turkey Jalapeno Sliders, I put them with tacos, and they’re even good in a bowl or on a sandwich with my Healthy Crockpot Pulled Pork.
A little bit of these go a long way. They’re so full of flavor that make any dish SO much better!
