3 great reasons to make a vanilla latte
- Less expensive than a coffee shop drink – Depending on the cost of your espresso, this vanilla latte is much cheaper than one from a coffee shop!
- Nutrient-rich, protein-packed drink with anti-inflammatory ingredients
- Quick and easy to make – Making this delicious warm latte takes less than 5 minutes of time!
ingredients in this vanilla latte recipe
To make this delicious latte, you’ll need less than 5 minutes of time and the following ingredients:
- almond milk or milk of choice – We prefer to use homemade almond milk, but store bought works, too.
- espresso (We own this Nespresso machine which is hands down one of the best investments we have ever made! If you regularly purchase more than 3 lattes in a month at a coffee shop, you should buy this. You’ll see a return on your investment pretty quickly!)
- vanilla extract
- maple syrup
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR SKINNY VANILLA LATTE
Milk: We recommend whole milk but you can use low fat milk, almond milk or coconut milk.
Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract is a must for making this recipe. You could use vanilla bean paste. We recommend high quality pure vanilla extract, not imitation!
Maple Syrup: We tried this recipe with honey, but we didn’t like it nearly as much as maple syrup.
Can I make this without an espresso machine? Our Nespresso is one of the most used kitchen tools we have and I think it is well worth the $$ (Even if you buy just ONE grande latte a week at Starbucks and switch to making it at home instead, this will pay for itself in just a few months!) You could sub in 1/2 cup coffee to this recipe but it will not have the same amount of caffeine and may taste a little watered down… Treat yourself and get the nespresso machine.
Other Flavors: If you’re not a vanilla fan try this Peppermint Mocha or Healthy Pumpkin Latte!

vanilla latte recipe FAQ
Technically, you can store brewed coffee drinks in the refrigerator for a couple of days. However, for the best flavor and frothy top, we recommend drinking a latte while it is still warm.
One or two lattes each day should be fine. Keep in mind that caffeine is a stimulant, so you may want to avoid drinking them at least 6 hours before bed time.
Can you store a latte?
We don’t recommend making this recipe and storing it, it’s best enjoyed fresh. This latte does not freeze well either!

I am sure this recipe is great.
I want to know if you can make a latte without espresso? I need to drink only decaf coffee–not espresso.
I want to find a recipe for a mocha latte without espresso, decaf, sugar free but with a little sweetness. Do you have any recipe like this?
Elizabeth Marino says
A latte by definition is espresso and milk. 🙂 A mocha latte is espresso, milk and chocolate. You can sub in decaf espresso if you’d like. But decaf coffee will water this down and it will not be as flavorful!
