If you are looking for a Healthy Caesar Salad Dressing to add to your favorite salads, you’ve found it! Your taste buds will not be disappointed!

Finding a salad dressing that’s both healthy and flavorful can be tough. Even many “low calorie” store-bought options are packed with preservatives and fillers.

This healthy low calorite Caesar dressing is made with real, whole ingredients you can actually pronounce—and it only takes 5 minutes to make!

It’s rich, creamy, and full of flavor, making it the perfect addition to any salad. Best of all, you’d never guess it’s healthy. Homemade dressings like this ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, and this Caesar dressing aren’t just better for you—they taste better too!

Liz’s tips for the best caesar dressing

  • Store in a Mason Jar for Convenience: A Mason jar with a lid is perfect for storing your dressing—just give it a shake before serving to mix together and pop it back in the fridge when you’re done!
  • Opt for Fresh Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice adds a bright flavor that’s so much better than bottled versions and makes all the difference in the taste of your dressing.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Healthy Caesar Dressing in small bowls

This is a caesar salad dressing without anchovies, but you could add them if you like!

SUBSTITUTIONS

Olive Oil: You can use avocado oil in place of olive oil. We don’t recommend using canola or other oils for dressings.

Nonfat Greek Yogurt: You can substitute any plain yogurt as a 1:1 substitute for greek yogurt. You can also use cottage cheese, but we will warn you that the consistency of the dressing will change.

Garlic powder: Freshly minced garlic can be used in place of garlic powder.

Onion powder: Freshly chopped onion, onion salt, or shallots can also work well in this dressing.

Lemon Juice: This recipe is best with freshly squeezed lemon juice. We don’t recommend using store brought lemon juice, the flavor is not as flavorful and lemony. You’ll be missing out!

Parmesan cheese: Pecorino Romano, asiago, or any hard sharp Italian cheese will work when grated for this dressing. We haven’t tried it, but nutritional yeast could also work as a dairy-free substitute for cheese.

Honey: Maple syrup or agave syrup will work for giving this recipe the little hint of sweet it needs.

Dijon mustard: Whole grain or stone ground mustard will work just as well as dijon.

I liked this recipe with a few adjustments. It was a bit too yoghurty for me and very thick so I added 1/3 cup of buttermilk. I also added a generous 1/2 tsp salt and used the honey. I would have added a couple of dashes of Worcestershire sauce but was out. This is so much nicer than store dressing, which is typically too acidic.

  2. Can you use non dairy yogurt?

    1. I’m so sorry but I haven’t tried it, I’m not sure if it will work but I think it would!

This is by far my favorite homemade salad dressing! It was so creamy and delicious! I didn’t have Dijon mustard the second time I made it so I used stone ground just because I had it on hand, still fabulous! This will be a staple dressing I make in the warmer months when I eat salads daily.

Love it! I did replace parmesean with nutritional yeast to reduce the sodium for our household, plus my daughter is vegan. Easy to throw together and everyone enjoyed it. Will be trying some of your other recipes too for a change up now and then.

So creamy and delicious! I didn’t realize I didn’t have Dijon mustard before starting to make it so I used stone ground mustard and it was really good. I also made the homemade crouton from this site and they’re paired perfectly together on my salad.

  8. What else can I use instead of greek yogurt?

    1. It’s the base of the dressing so I don’t really recommend substituting it. I haven’t tried it without the yogurt – sorry!

It’s good, and I like that it’s healthier than bottled. Not sure how it comes out to 16 tablespoons, though.
