What are the different types of oats?
There are 3 different types of oats: Steel cut oats (Irish oats), Old Fashioned Rolled Oats and Quick Cook Oats (Instant Oats)
Steel Cut Oats are oats in their purest form. They take the longest to cook and have a chewier, hearty texture.
Old Fashioned Oats are the most popular type of oat. They are made by taking oats, steaming them and rolling them until they’re flat. These oats cook much quicker than steel cut oats.
Quick Cook Oats are steamed and rolled similar to regular old fashioned oats but made even thinner which is why they cook super quickly!

How to Store Oatmeal
How to Store Cooked Oatmeal: The best way to store oatmeal is to let it cook and store in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator.
Freezing: Some oatmeal freezes well. We don’t recommend freezing overnight oats because they can get mushy, but you can freeze baked oatmeal or cooked oatmeal in containers for up to 3 months in your freezer
Reheating: You can reheat most oatmeal recipes in the microwave, toaster oven, oven or on the stove.
The healthiest way to eat oatmeal is cooked in milk with fresh fruit on top. The milk helps add extra protein and makes the oats creamy. The fruits add a delicious sweetness! You can also use almond milk or your favorite non-dairy milk.
Oatmeal can be healthy for weight loss. It’s very filling and has lots of vitamins. Some pre-made oats are high in calories, sugar and fat so those are not a good option for weight loss. Weight loss is affected by many other factors of your lifestyle so oats alone can’t only affect weight loss.
To add flavor to your oatmeal you can add cinnamon or other spices, fresh fruit, sweeteners, chopped nuts or seeds.

Healthy Oatmeal Recipe
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
- In a mixing bowl, add all ingredients until combined.
- Pour batter in a greased 8×8 pan – it will look like there is too much liquid, but it will absorb.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the milk is completely absorbed. Enjoy warm or cold!
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Do not store this healthy baked oatmeal at room temp. It likely will get moldy or stale if you don't refrigerate it. This baked oatmeal will last in the refrigerator for up to a week.
