Best skewers for grilling:
Metal skewers are definitely better for grilling because you don’t have to worry about them burning or catching fire. (Or leaving little flecks of wood in/near your food!)
I think these metal skewers from amazon are the best for grilling. They’re reasonably priced and have held up great for us. We pop them right in the dishwasher after using!
If you need to use wooden skewers, these are a good option.

Healthy Grilling FAQ
Grilling is a great way to make healthy meals! We opt for lean protein, light marinades and lots of veggies wherever possible!
The best things to cook on the grill are meats and vegetables. Potatoes also grill well when wrapped in foil!
Charcoal grills aren’t bad for your health but they’re not good for your health. The smoke from a charcoal grill can create PAH which is a known carcinogen. We prefer a wood smoker.
Balsamic Grilled Chicken
- 1 1/2 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- Whisk together olive oil, balsamic, honey and fresh thyme.
- Pour marinade into a ziploc bag or container.
- Add chicken to marinade and allow it to marinade for at least 30 minutes. (Overnight is best!)
- When ready to cook, heat grill on high and cook on each side for 7-9 minutes or until chicken is cooked thoroughly (internal temp should be 165)
- To make Whole30– omit honey
- Herbs – You can sub in chopped basil or rosemary instead of thyme
- Balsamic Vinegar – Try using infused balsamic vinegars for even more flavor
- Baking in oven – You can bake the chicken in the oven at 400 for 20-25 minutes if you don’t have a grill.
